New designs have been showcased ahead of the next phase of improvements to reinvigorate a prominent seafront.
A vision for the redevelopment of Jubilee Parade on Lowestoft's seafront has been unveiled after East Suffolk Council was awarded £4.3m through the Government’s Levelling Up Fund in March.
With the funding enabling the council to realise its vision, and help to drive the visitor economy, a further £600,000 investment from East Suffolk Council’s capital programme will make the total cost of the project £4.9m.
Ahead of plans being submitted, the development - which will complement the Eastern Edge beach huts next to it - will include a two-storey café, concession units, public toilets, a Changing Places facility, and extensive public realm improvements to the surrounding seafront area.
An accessible lift will also be installed to connect the lower promenade with the first-floor level and improve wider accessibility between the Upper Esplanade and Lower Promenade for wheelchair and pushchair users.
And last week, residents and stakeholders were able to view the "exciting new" designs and proposed project timeline as they were showcased to the public as events were held at the East Point Pavilion and at Eastern Edge.
A council spokesman said: "East Suffolk Council held two successful engagement events on Wednesday to provide the public and visitors with the opportunity to view exciting new plans for the redevelopment of the Jubilee Parade complex on Lowestoft South Beach and ask the project team any questions.
"Positive feedback and support were received for the proposed complex, which will see a new public lift providing improved accessibility between the lower and upper promenade for all, showers and public facilities, including a Changing Places facility for people with additional needs.
“The plans were informed by comments from the public during the development of the London Road, Lowestoft High Street Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) and Seafront Masterplan.
"Comments collated on the day are now being reviewed by the project team."
