A bomb squad was tasked with exploding a "highly dangerous" flare after it was brought to land from an offshore wind farm.

HM Coastguard Lowestoft was called to receive a "spent flare" at Hamilton Dock after it was brought in by boat from a nearby wind farm.

But it was quickly discovered to be a live phosphorus flare which was highly volatile and very dangerous.

The Coastguard cordoned off the area and awaited the arrival of explosive ordinance disposal teams from Colchester.

Once they arrived they were able to establish the flare was still live and arranged safe destruction at a nearby beach, carrying out a controlled detonation.

Following the incident on August 10, HM Coastguard Lowestoft issued a warning to the public about encountering unknown objects on the beach and urged people to take note of the location using what3words and call 999 for the Coastguard.
