Students at Lowestoft high schools have celebrated their GCSE results.
East Point Academy saw 69pc of pupils achieve grades 9-4 in maths and English, a 20pc increase on 2019.
The results from last Thursday saw 54pc of its students achieve grade 9-5 in maths and English, a 16pc increase on 2019 (as Ofqual announced last week, the return to pre-pandemic grading means nationally results will have fallen and therefore it will be most meaningful to compare to the results of 2019).
Lucy Austin, principal at East Point Academy said: “Our students at East Point Academy have made themselves and all our community extremely proud of them with some fantastic results.
"The students, their families and the staff have all worked incredibly hard to achieve this set of results – the best East Point Academy has ever known.
"We wish our students all the best for the bright futures ahead of them.”
Standout subjects this year have been in maths, science, and history. East Point Academy has also shown improvement in subjects such as modern foreign languages showing the largest improvement, an increase of 46pc since the 2019 results.
There were similar scenes of celebration at Pakefield High School.
Dan Bagshaw, head of school, said: "We are proud of the achievements of Year 11 - it was a pleasure to see them collecting results this morning with some big smiles.
"I’d like to single out Amelia Allison, Grace Reynolds and Finn McClure for securing some exceptional results, proving that hard work and determination really does pay off.
"It's important to remember that this cohort were also hit by the challenges of Covid, but they all coped well with the additional stress and pressures they have faced during Key Stage 4.
"Teachers and support staff worked tirelessly to support students, and I thank them all for their support.
"For our students collecting results today, I wish them every success for their next adventure – I know they will go on to achieve amazing things."
There were also similar scenes of jubilation at Ormiston Denes Academy.
Principal Kate Williams said: “Our students should be proud of themselves and everything they have achieved since beginning their secondary education.
"With the help of their families, friends, the wonderful academy staff and our supportive wider community, their results are a testament to the importance of hard work and determination.
"We are all looking forward to seeing what is next on the horizon for each of them.”
