Saint Felix School in Southwold hires new headteacher

Matthew Oakman was appointed the new head at Saint Felix School in Southwold at the start of the new term.

On September 22, he spoke to parents, staff and governors about his five-year vision for the school.

He said: "I want to empower your sons and daughters to be the very best version of themselves.

"I want them to have the opportunity to find their passions and interests and leave Saint Felix prepared for what may lie ahead."

He listed a multitude of planned changes and developments, including the upgrading of all classrooms to have writable walls and modular furniture, upgrading of the sporting and swimming facilities, new outdoor play equipment for the nursery, the renovation of the sports pitches and the regeneration of the Design and Technology department.

One of his implementations was a new forest school, which officially opened on the same night, stating the benefits of outdoor learning.

Tom Fletcher, a year 4 teacher, said: "The fenced-off Forest School will allow students to build dens, weave fences, assemble bug hotels, have fun with mud kitchens and more.

"These incredible outdoor experiences encourage children to develop their risk-based thinking in a safe, controlled environment."

Mr Oakman concluded: "Above all, I want this to be fun and exciting for our students, parents and staff.

"I am excited about where we can take this school.

"It is a journey we can all take together."

Parents are reported to be highly enthusiastic and positive about the future of the school, with Mr Oakman being commended for his immediate influence on change and the future proposed.
