Thousands of sausage dogs are expected to gather on Southwold beach for an annual meet this October. 

The increasingly popular Southwold Sausage Dog Walk will return on Sunday, October 8, in an event that will see pooches from around the country gathering on the sands of the east Suffolk beach.

During last year's event, about 2,200 Dachshunds descended on the beach and smashed the previous world record of 1,400 dogs of one breed in one location.

The event was founded by Laura Baggott in 2017, with the first walk attracting about 150 dogs.

This October's event will be the fifth major walk to take place, although smaller walks have been held since too.

There were fears that the walk might look a bit different this year after the organisers announced that it would have to be scaled back due to a lack of funding and too much "red tape".

Dachshunds and their owners who would like to take part in this year's meet can gather at Southwold Harbour from 10am on Sunday, October 8, and the walk will start at 11am.
