People in Norfolk and Suffolk wanting to take part in commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day next year are being encouraged to buy a special 'lamp light of peace'.

Gorleston man Bruno Peek, royal pageantmaster and co-ordinator of D-Day 80, is organising a series of events to remember those who took part in storming the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

Mr Peek said he is encouraging as many families and organisations throughout the region to take part in D-Day 80 by purchasing a Lamp Light of Peace - which will "represent the light of peace that emerged from the darkness of war".

The idea is that people will light the lamps at 9.15pm on June 6 next year, at the same time as beacons are lit on the five beaches of northern France where Allied troops landed.

Mr Peek said the hope is to "bring the nation together at one moment in time", whether people are standing at their garden gate, accompanied by family and friends, or in their local pub or restaurant.

Once people have bought the lamp, they can use them again on Armistice Day on November 11, he said.

Mr Peek has already compiled and distributed a 'Guide to Taking Part in D-Day 80' to various organisations around the country.
