Branding, signs and logos have now appeared as work to develop a new McDonald's drive-through restaurant gathers pace.

A site has been transformed over recent weeks as work to develop a modern freestanding single storey restaurant with drive-thru facility progresses on land south of Leisure Way in Lowestoft.

Diggers and workmen moved onto the site in July as construction of the development on undeveloped land opposite the Tesco supermarket got under way.

With groundworks starting as diggers moved in and a construction site was unveiled back then, cranes moved in last month as the single storey restaurant was moved into place.

According to McDonalds, the restaurant is set to be run "by a local franchisee" who operates other locations in the area.

And while the opening date of new McDonald’s drive-through restaurant is still to be confirmed, more signs and branding have now been installed as work gathers pace.

Earlier this month the fast food chain successfully applied for a new premises licence "to permit late-night refreshment - indoors and outdoors - from Monday to Sunday 11pm to 5am" alongside the "proposed opening hours" of "Monday to Sunday 24-hours" for the new outlet at Leisure Way in north Lowestoft.

It is set to be the third McDonald's operating in the area - in addition to the other restaurants on Arbor Lane in Pakefield and Kirkley Rise in south Lowestoft.

Plans to build the third McDonald's in Lowestoft were approved under delegated powers by East Suffolk Council in December last year - despite dozens of objections.

Planning documents submitted as part of the application by agents Planware Ltd, on behalf of McDonald's, said 30 full-time posts and 90 part-time posts, would be created - equating to a full-time equivalent of 62 staff - as the proposal represents a "multi-million-pound investment by a national operator in Lowestoft".
