And ahead of tributes being paid this weekend as the annual Armistice and Remembrance Sunday Services and Parades take centre stage across Lowestoft, the two 'There But Not There' life-sized silhouettes - or ‘Tommies’ - have returned to a popular park.
Lowestoft Town Council has installed the two silhouettes on the benches in the poppy memorial Remembrance Garden at Belle Vue Park in Lowestoft.
A Lowestoft Town Council spokesman said: "As we prepare to mark Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday this weekend, the 'There But Not There' figures have been installed at the Remembrance Garden in Belle Vue Park."
On Armistice Day this Saturday, November 11 the town council has organised three services to commemorate the occasion at the War Memorial on Royal Plain, at Lowestoft Cemetery and at Belle Vue Park - by the Private David Parr Memorial Plaque, with each taking place shortly before 11am.
Lowestoft's annual Service of Remembrance and Parade will once again be held at the War Memorial on Royal Plain on Sunday, November 12, starting shortly before 11am.
The parade, led by soldiers of F (Sphinx) Parachute Battery Royal Horse Artillery, 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, will begin from Claremont Pier and enter Royal Plain shortly before the service begins.
East Suffolk Council has arranged for free parking for Remembrance events across the district this weekend.
A spokesman said: "East Suffolk Council has agreed with town and parish councils to offer free parking in council-owned car parks on Remembrance Sunday (November 12) in Beccles (1pm-6pm); Bungay (1pm-6pm); Halesworth (1pm-6pm); Lowestoft (8am–1pm); Southwold (8am–1pm).
Veterans and members of the armed forces heading to Remembrance Day activities around East Suffolk will also be able to get free bus travel this weekend as First Bus offers free travel on November 11/12.
To be eligible, passengers can either wear their military uniform or show the bus driver their service ID card on Armistice Day (Saturday) and Remembrance Sunday.
