A care home group has opened a new office in Lowestoft.

Kingsley Home Care has launched its latest development on London Road North with the move hailed by the mayor, Councillor Sonia Barker, as an "important investment in our town".

Ms Barker, who cut the ceremonial ribbon, said: "My mother-in-law was looked after brilliantly in social care.

"It is such an important issue that provision is made for people to be looked after well when they need care."

During the afternoon, shoppers were invited to share in the celebration by dropping in for canapes and hot and cold drinks and to listen to the Full House Duo singing Christmas hits from the 1950s and 60s.

There was also an opportunity to discuss home care services with branch manager Nikki Roden and her team of carers.

Kingsley Healthcare CEO Daya Thayan said the opening of the town centre office marked a significant moment for the company as it entered its 25th anniversary year.

He said: "We started Kingsley in 1999 and Lowestoft was the place we bought our first care home.

"Our company has since grown to become a national care provider but we built our head office in Lowestoft and the town remains close to our heart.”

After starting in Diss, and launching its second Kingsley Home Care branch in Lowestoft last September in a move that created more than 50 jobs, the new office in the former Barnardo's shop has three floors which open up the possibility of running community programmes such as drop-in cafes for older people.

Kingsley Home Care chief operating officer Georgina Johnston said: “It’s great that this new office now gives Kingsley a presence on the High Street."

Dan Wellings, the company's business development manager, said: “With Kingsley’s trusted reputation, our vision is to expand home care with new branches throughout the region and, eventually, across the UK.”
