Lowestoft's first-ever inside ice rink has been laid down, and it has taken an unlikely home.

Adventure Island Play Park and Raw Soccer has undergone a full festive makeover, turning one of its indoor football pitches into a winter wonderland.

Andy Reynolds, co-owner of Adventure Island Play Park said: "It's something we have always wanted to do. We tried last year but just ran out of time.

"We started planning for it on Boxing Day last year."

The 300-square-metre real ice rink has been put over one of their 3G pitches and will be available throughout the festive period.

The first reviews are already in with one punter very happy with the experience.

She said: "My daughter is in a wheelchair and I was able to take her there and skate with her whilst she was in her chair."

She added: "She had the best time ever, and I feel that something so unique and inclusive is a bonus to this town.  The staff at Adventure Island were amazing."

After just a week of opening local schools, businesses and clubs have all flocked to the winter wonderland.

Among the people and groups to use it are children from Reydon Primary School and Beccles Town Football Club, which used it for a girls Christmas party.

A statement from Reydon Primary School said: "What an incredibly fun morning. Year 5 and 6 had such a fantastic time on the ice. A super time was had by all."

The skating costs £10.50 for children, £12.50 for adults or a family ticket (two adults and two children) for £40. The price includes skate hire and 45 minutes on the ice.

Mr Reynolds added: "The aim is to be able to do it again next year".
