The festive spirit is very much aglow on a pair of aptly named roads in Oulton Broad.

For the fourth year running, homes along Christmas Lane and Noel Road are adorned with tens of thousands of sparkling lights, as the community comes together to support charitable causes.

Residents have collaborated to light up their homes, all in support of East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH).

Denise Bretton, who lives on Christmas Lane, said: "A few of us have been decorating our houses individually for a number of years.

"But over the 18 years we have lived here others in the road joined in and it has gradually snowballed to the spectacle we have today.

“Noel Road joined in together with others houses in surrounding roads. Then four years ago we decided to raise some funds for charity and chose EACH as it is for children.

“We believe there may be only three Christmas Lanes in the UK, so it makes it special to make ours so Christmassy," Ms Bretton said.

With the decorations installed, timers set and lighting tested, the Christmas Lane Christmas Lights 2023 festive offering saw the lights switched on during a big 'switch on' event on December 2.

Neighbour Paul Gray said: “On our launch day, when the lights were switched on at 6.30pm, we had a snow machine and sweets for kids.

"It was crowded with well over 200 people.

"It really brings out the community spirit as we help each other to put lights up. We add a bit more to the displays each year and replace worn out lights," he added.

Last year the display raised £1,700 for EACH.

Donations can be made via cash buckets placed along the road or through a dedicated JustGiving page.

The display will be illuminated from 4pm to 10pm every day until New Year’s Eve.
