Southwold Lifeboat Station received its relief boat, B-850 Edna May, from the back of a RNLI lorry on Monday (January 29).

The stationed boat, Atlantic 85 Annie Tranmer, which has an operational range of 25 miles, has departed for an extensive refit at the Inshore Lifeboat Centre in Cowes, Isle of Wight.

Southwold's lifeboat team of volunteers assisted in unloading Edna May and transferring tools and equipment.

Over the next few months the Annie Tranmer will undergo the refit, during which Edna May will undertake service and training duties for Southwold RNLI.

The Inshore Lifeboat Centre at Cowes boasts a team of 70 highly skilled workers who build and maintain up to 80 lifeboats yearly.

Progress on the refurbishment of the Atlantic 85 can be followed via the Inshore Lifeboat Centre's webcams that document each stage.
