Entries are open for Beccles Cycle for Life, which will be held on Sunday, May 12.

This will be the 22nd Beccles Cycle for Life charity ride organised by the Beccles Rotary Club and based at the Sir John Leman High School.

The ride is to raise funds for East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Rotary club’s charitable trust equally.

All accompanied children (riders under 18) enter free of charge thanks to continued financial support from Lowestoft-based Norfolk and Suffolk Chartered Financial Planners.

The ride is suitable for all ages and abilities with five distances of eight, 16, 25, 41 and 50 miles and it attracts families and regular cyclists alike.

The two longer distances combine two laps of shorter routes, so nobody is ever out of reach of the start.

The routes all head onto country roads to the south of Beccles and are fully waymarked on the day.

Maps of all the routes are on the event's website and bike riders who use a GPS-based cycling computer may also download GPX files.

Organisers say as well as being an ideal family event it will also suit cycling enthusiasts of every kind. Helmets are compulsory. E-bikes are welcome.

Riders of all categories can enter directly online through the event’s website at becclescycleforlife.org and it will also be possible to enter at the school on the day, but the on-the-day price is a little higher.

The fundraising success of the event is helped by those riders who are willing to obtain personal sponsorship from friends and family rather than just paying the entry fees.

They either create a JustGiving page through an easy link on the website, or use sponsorship forms.

Lord Somerleyton is offering a prize of a day entry voucher to Somerleyton Hall Gardens for up to a family of four for the rider who raises the most in sponsorship.
