A new film that is set in Suffolk and stars Stephanie Beacham is set to hit cinemas.
Featuring Southwold's quintessential beach huts, a custom painted mobility scooter from a Lowestoft supplier, a Pakefield Sheltered Housing scheme and the St Felix School swimming team, Grey Matter is set to showcase sights and scenes from across East Suffolk.
The independent film was primarily shot in Southwold but features Hildesley Court in Pakefield, Blythburgh Village Hall, St Felix School in Reydon and a custom painted mobility scooter from Lowestoft-based East Coast Mobility.
Following the life of a teenager, Chloe, as she cares for her nan, Peg, who has Alzheimer’s disease, w4 films’ Grey Matter is being shown at select cinemas from Friday.
An all star cast - including Stephanie Beacham, of Dynasty fame, who plays Peg and Eloise Smyth, who played Lucy Wells in Harlots, taking on the role of Chloe - feature.
It sees Alzheimer’s through the eyes of a teenager - as Chloe’s nan, Peg, gets diagnosed with Alzheimer’s as she is forced to become her carer overnight.
The story focuses on their plans to make a bucket list for a summer to remember before she forgets everything.
The film is the directorial debut from Arabella Burfitt-Dons, who described why she chose to set the film in Southwold.
She said: "I wanted Chloe’s family to live in a vibrant colourful seaside town in England.
"I dreamt of this place that felt right for the story and then I came across Southwold.
"When I first drove down to recce the area and I saw the beautiful pastel beach huts and the quaint high street I knew I’d found the place."
Of filming in the area, she added: "Everyone was so welcoming and it was amazing to feature so many businesses and include local people in the film.
"The pink mobility scooter that has become iconic, East Coast Mobility custom painted just for the film so it was the perfect pink.
"They’ll be glad to know that Stephanie had a lot of fun in it."
With Grey Matter being screened in selected cinemas across the UK, the film is showing at Southwold Cinema and East Coast Cinema in Lowestoft this Friday.
Southwold Cinema also features in the film.
