Asda workers at a store in Suffolk are going on strike next month.

A total of 122 staff members at the Lowestoft branch are set to down tools for 48 hours from May 10 until May 11 over "a litany of workplace problems".

The GMB Union said staff are facing "cuts to their hours and poor quality training" and are concerned about safety and management issues.

A spokesman for Asda said they were "disappointed" that the GMB had decided to strike but would "continue to engage with their representatives with the aim of reaching an amicable solution for all parties".

The Lowestoft store will become the third Asda branch to face strike action, with workers in Gosport and Wisbech walking out in recent weeks.

Keith Dixon, GMB regional organiser, said: “GMB members used to be proud to work for Asda, but this once great supermarket is being driven into the ground.

"Asda workers have had enough and are flexing their industrial muscle to make bosses do something about it.”

A spokesman for Asda said: “We can reassure customers that we have processes in place to minimize any disruption as a result of industrial action by the GMB at our Lowestoft store.

"We have taken practical steps in Lowestoft to address the points raised by the GMB and will continue to engage with their representatives with the aim of reaching an amicable solution for all parties.”
