A 5.6m community project in Kessingland, near Lowestoft, that includes a new library, caf and 32 two-bedroom flats, moved a step closer yesterday (Tuesday) with a topping-out ceremony.
The scheme at Marram Green, off Hall Road, is being developed by Flagship Housing Group and the 32 very sheltered flats will be managed by Suffolk Heritage Housing Association.
They will enable people to stay in their home when they need care and support.
Flats, costing 120,000 to 130,000, will be available to buy, rent or acquire on a shared equity scheme.
Chairman of Suffolk Heritage Housing Association, Garth Pollard, said the scheme would also incorporate a public library and caf to create a community focus.
'We aim to promote and deliver local services that add to people's independence, knowledge and well-being,' he said.

The flats will be offered first to people from Kessingland or with strong connections to the village.
The complex will also include community rooms that can be used by the parish council and Citizens' Advice Bureau.
It has been built by the ISG Jackson Group and funded through a partnership that includes the Homes and Communities Agency which provided a grant of nearly 2m, Waveney District Council and Suffolk County Council with support from Kessingland Parish Council.
John Goldsmith, the county councillor for Kessingland, said: 'We aim to address the affordable housing crisis in our region while ensuring that local people can stay close to friends and family.'
The topping-out ceremony was attended by pupils from nearby Kessingland Primary School.
The new complex will be opened in September.
