The icing on the cake would have course have been bringing the prize home to Suffolk, but alas it was just not to be.

The sun was shining, the atmosphere was electric, and memories will be carried with attendees forever of the day we went to Wembley to see our home town play at the home of the beautiful game.

The weather was perfect, the sun drenching both the pitch and the fans, perhaps too warm for some.

But despite there not being a rain cloud in sight, tears flowed as soon as our boys lost. But, and I don't think I'm alone in saying this, the best team won.

In a classic tale of the underdog taking the limelight, Kirkham & Wesham worked tirelessly throughout the match and were rewarded for their efforts. But we mustn't forget that the Trawler Boys worked hard too and it was bitterly disappointing that they didn't get the award that was so close, yet oh so far.

My first impressions of Wembley Stadium were great; the size of the place was phenomenal!

But when I handed in my ticket and entered the ground I was shocked at how poor the security was.

Men were searched but all I received was a quick glance in my handbag by a female guard. Who's to say that a woman hasn't got something in her pocket or shoes, if it is presumed that a man may have?

The VIP area, where potentially some incredibly significant and well-known people would gather, had two security guards outside holding metal detectors. But I didn't see anyone being checked. I couldn't understand, why in today's politically tense climate that the safety checks weren't at their tightest? If you've got nothing to hide then surely no one would have a problem with being searched in the interest of everybody's protection?

In spite of coming away with the sadness of Lowestoft's loss, I didn't come across a single person who complained about having a bad day. Everyone seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves, which was certainly evident in the extraordinary Mexican waves which rolled around the ground.

Lowestoft's players should be commended for being the sole reason why thousands of local people had a really good day out, one which will never be forgotten.
