Police have re-opened the A47 following a rush hour crash involving a van and a crane this morning.

Two people were taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, one with a chest injury and the second with a minor head injury and back pain following the 7am collision which involved a white Vauxhall van and a mobile at the top of the A146 slip road at Trowse, near Norwich.

The accident caused rush hour chaos for motorists heading to Norwich and Yarmouth with tailbacks stretching to the Thickthorn roundabout and to the Postwick junction.

One 36-year-old motorist heading into work said the traffic was chaos as cars were diverted through Thorpe St Andrew on the Yarmouth Road.

'It took me about 45 minutes to do a four mile journey, which normally takes half that,' he said. 'Cars were bumper to bumper, it was chaos.'

Police closed the eastbound stretch of the road and the A146 slip road, but the outer westbound lane, which was closed after the van went into the central reservation, has now re-opened.

Police ambulance and fire crews were all on scene to help free the injured and the road was finally re-opened at 10.30am.
