Royal-themed games were played, activities were enjoyed and talented youngsters showcased their skills as a popular tradition was hailed a success.

Fun for all the family attracted 'a brilliant turnout' to Gunton Primary Academy in Lowestoft last Friday as there was something for everyone at the school's annual summer fete.

Organised by the school's Parents Staff Friends Association (PSFA), lots of different stalls, activities, displays and performances wowed the crowds.

And headteacher at the primary school in Gainsborough Drive, Matthew Jordan, was delighted with how the event went – with the final amounts raised still to be tallied.

Mr Jordan said: 'It went really well. We had a brilliant turnout from children, parents and staff. All credit to the PSFA, who worked incredibly well as a team to put the whole event together. They are all volunteers, and with friends and family helping – along with a lot of children who volunteered as well – they all did brilliantly.'

With sports games, a bouncy castle, children's activities, Royal-themed games, competitions, face painting, a craft fair in the school hall, a double-decker bus, royal selfie station and barbecue – there was plenty to keep the crowds entertained.

Teacher Mr Cullingham, parents and pupils were among those who stepped up to the stocks to be pelted with sponges, while Mr Jordan and PE teacher Mr Kounnas were also involved in the fun as they went in goal in a beat-the-keeper-style penalty shoot out.

Oli Hitcham, on guitar, was joined by the school's performing arts group – made up of youngsters of mixed ages attending an after-school club run by Casey Sapsford – as songs and dance were performed on the playing field before a raffle brought the fete to a close.

'With lots of people giving up their time to help – such as Mr Denny, for providing the bus that the children loved – it went extremely well,' Mr Jordan said.

'A big thank you goes to everyone who came along and contributed. A fete is still a great English tradition and this has been supported by the children, parents and staff.

'It has been a lot of fun, and it is nice that so many people make the effort to come along.'
