Amazed at victory claim

I WAS amused, if not amazed, to read in The Journal (June 13) that Mervyn Lambert is claiming a victory over the proposed caravan park on the North Denes.

As I recollect, the purpose of PONDA, backed by Mr Lambert's finances, was to prevent the re-establishment of a caravan park, despite the fact that there has been one there for the life time of most Lowestoft residents.

Having had somewhat more than a passing interest on the debate I cannot recall any proposals, other than gossip and rumours, whereby the general public were to be denied access.

In anyone's language, other than a politicians, I would say it was complete and utter defeat.

I vividly recall Mr Lambert stating within the columns of The Journal that if he lost he would subsidise the air show.

I would suggest, however, that as the air show is primarily for the benefit of tourists, pensioners, the unemployed and licensing outlets on the sea front (who I am sure pay substantially into the organisation of the show) that Mr Lambert puts his money where his mouth is and reimburses directly the district council for the legal costs incurred, and indirectly, the tax payers of Waveney.
