Campaigners battling to save a Non-League football club have launched an online appeal.

An official GoFundMe page 'to help save our club' started yesterday, with the Save Lowestoft Town FC appeal aiming to raise £50,000.

A club spokesman said the GoFundMe page was launched 'to help raise capital to ensure we survive.'

It comes after Lowestoft's 'near critical' financial plight was made public last week, with two players subsequently leaving the club and the chairman resigning for health reasons.

In unveiling the online page, the club's fundraising committee chairman, Helen Nixon, said: 'Lowestoft Town FC means so much in many ways for us all. We are a community based, family friendly Non-League club.

'For well over a century, Lowestoft Town FC has been a pillar of the local community. It has given the town highs and lows on and off the pitch, not forgetting a memorable day out at Wembley.

'Now the club is having financial issues and its our turn to help them. Let's not become the latest Non-League fatality. Lowestoft FC is more than a football club. It's an identity for the town and has hosted and helped many charities and citizens over the years.

'For young and old our community needs our club to survive for our town – let's save our Lowestoft Town FC. All donations, however small, count as our aim is to raise £50,000. We will be having a further update on actual funds needed to rebuild and restructure our club – for the long term we need to provide solid business foundations so this won't happen again. Please help us to help our club. All our supporters are fantastic but we now need the community fully behind us.'

With businesses and the community being urged to get behind the Trawlerboys, there are five home games still to be played at the Amber Dew Events Stadium – starting tomorrow night, Tuesday, March 13, as Lowestoft Town host Wingate and Finchley at 7.45pm.

Lowestoft Town's official supporters club – The Trawlerboys – is also organising coaches for fans to cheer on the Blues at the Bostik League Premier Division encounter against Brightlingsea Regent on Easter Monday, April 2, with 'all profits' being forwarded onto the club.
