POLICE are keen to trace a man after a ten-year-old girl was offered a lift in Carlton Colville.

Officers have launched an appeal after a white man, in his 40s to early 50s, with dark brown shoulder length wavy hair, wearing glasses and with a brown greying beard, offere the youngster alift.

The girl was crossing Castleton Avenue at the eastern end, near the roundabout at Lowestoft Road, about 3.40pm last Friday, December 10. She was halfway across at the traffic island when the vehicle – described as similar to a silver Renault Clio that was quite dirty - pulled up alongside her and the driver asked if she wanted a ride.

The ten-year-old ignored him and continued on her way, with the incident reported later to police.

'There may be an innocent explanation for the incident and officers would like to speak to the man or anyone else who was in the area around this time who may have seen the car or the girl, who was on a white and blue cycle,' a police spokesman said.
