Schoolchildren have been left heartbroken after arsonists burned down their school's treasured outdoor Celtic roundhouse.

Carlton Colville Primary School has now launched a £10,000 appeal to rebuild the 10ft high structure and install CCTV after it was reduced to a handful of charred posts during half-term,

The children were looking forward to having lessons in it once the weather warmed up during the spring and summer. Some had yet to step foot inside it.

Faye Thornton, seven, said: 'I feel upset and disappointed. I would say to the people that did it, you chose to do the wrong thing. You shouldn't have done it and you should be disappointed in yourself.'

The school has set up the 'Carlton Colville Roundhouse' page on Facebook, which includes links to its Go Fund Me page, where donations can be made.

Letters appealing for donations are being sent to local businesses following the incident at 2pm on Wednesday, February 17.

Police are keen to trace three teenage boys, thought to be aged around 15, who were seen in the area at the time.
