ARSONISTS are being blamed after flammable liquid was poured over two vehicles before being set alight in Lowestoft.

Firefighters from Lowestoft South station and another from North Lowestoft station were called out at 7.15am this morning (Monday, January 31) following reports of a 'car fire on road' at Uggeshall Close.

The liquid had been poured over the bumper of an Audi car parked in the road before it was set alight, with the plastic bumper and rear numberplate damaged before the fire was put out by residents.

Firefighters were then made aware of a second incident at the back of premises in nearby Westhall Road where a Fiat had also been set ablaze in a similar manner. This fire was also extinguished but damage was caused to the vehicle, as the scene was cleared by 7.33am.

Police are treating these two blazes as arson asking anyone who may have been in the area around this time this morning, or anyone with information about who started the fires, to call PC 1705 Dines at Lowestoft on 01986 835300.
