Arsonists blamed for Lowestoft car blaze

POLICE need to trace a teenage boy in connection with a car fire on a busy road in Lowestoft.

The teenager, who is described as white, in his mid teens, about 5ft 9ins tall, of slim build and wearing a grey hooded top with the hood up and dark trousers, after a Vauxhall Astra car parked in Mountbatten Road was broken into and set on fire between 7pm and 8.30pm last Friday evening, November 12.

The teenager was seen throwing something into the vehicle and it then caught fire. The boy ran away into an alleyway between Tedder Road and Spashett Road.

Firefighters from Lowestoft South and North Lowestoft fire station were called to the scene at 8.30pm last Friday, and they battled the flames using two water fogs and foam as well as wearing breathing apparatus, getting the blaze under control shortly before 9pm.

No one was injured in the fire, which is now being treated as arson.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area between these times or anyone with information about the boy involved to call PC 198 Graham at Lowestoft police station on 01986 835300.
