SHOWBIZ stalwarts Kenny and Caron Cantor could help local aspiring actors, models and dancers to follow in the footsteps of world-famous celebrities such as Mena Suvari and Dakota Fanning.

SHOWBIZ stalwarts Kenny and Caron Cantor could help local aspiring actors, models and dancers to follow in the footsteps of world-famous celebrities such as Mena Suvari and Dakota Fanning.

The Cantors, who run Cantor's Theatre School, based at the Nirvana Fitness Centre on South Lowestoft Industrial Estate, have been picked by the Actors, Models and Talent Convention (AMTC) to scout for up-and-coming stars from Norfolk and Suffolk.

Known as the Olympics of the industry, the competition first spotted the likes of Mena, best known for her portrayal of a teenage temptress in the film, American Beauty, and Dakota, who at 13 has had movie successes including War of the Worlds.

And for the first time it is coming to Europe. Between November 18 and 23, Kenny and Caron, from Kessingland, will be based at Disneyland Paris with talented individuals picked by AMTC to represent this part of the region.

With more than 27 years of success in America, the competition will give participants a chance to perform in front of up to 150 agents and casting directors from television, films, print, the music industry, dance and fashion and stand-up comedy.

Kenny explained: “We got a phone call from the lady who is organising it for Britain and she asked if we could meet. I asked her how she had got hold of us; she said she'd been looking at everybody in this area and it seemed we had the most experience.

“It looks to be a wonderful thing for this area. It's going to be a hell of a lot of work, but absolutely worth it.

“Caron and I have been in the game all our lives, and the worst problem for anyone who has got any talent is getting it seen. It seems to me they are going to get all the major agents and producers together to meet the people we find. We can't believe it's us - all of a sudden this drops on our plate.

“We didn't look for it - this is going to be immense.”

The Cantors will advertise the opportunity and send applications to interested participants. They will stage a big audition with judges from AMTC, and the lucky ones chosen will accompany the couple to Paris.

Mr Cantor said a crew was arriving to film a pilot of them on Tuesday for the competition, in the hope it would be taken up for television.

During the convention a year's worth of auditions will be condensed into six days, with workshops held for the talent hopefuls by the AMTC UK team before they get their turn under the spotlight. For lucky contestants there is also the possibility of a screen test with a leading movie studio, a gala banquet and advice on how to pursue a career in the industry.
