Bascule Bridge raised during rush hour

TRAFFIC in Lowestoft was brought to a standstill this morning when the Bascule Bridge was raised during the morning rush hour.

Vehicles queued back onto the South Lowestoft Relief Road around 9am as the Port Authority let through what appeared to be a commercial ship.

TRAFFIC in Lowestoft was brought to a standstill this morning when the Bascule Bridge was raised during the morning rush hour.

Vehicles queued back onto the South Lowestoft Relief Road around 9am as the Port Authority let through what appeared to be a commercial ship.

Port officials have previously stated that they discourage commercial shipping movements between 8.15am and 9am, although this doesn't mean a ship will never require a bridge opening during these times because tides and draft restrictions dictate.
