WHISTLING WIND: When Glenn Long has an hour to kill after taking his car in for repair, he decided to take a walk along the beach.

And after seeing the sand whistling along the picturesque seafront dunes, Mr Long, 55 decided to take out his camera and capture the image – with the iconic pier in the background.

It turned out to be a wise decision, as the judges were impressed with his photograph – resulting in a debut win as part of our competition.

Mr Long, of Elmdale Drive, said: 'It was the sand that caught my eye – it was just a shot I needed to take.

'I had to lay on my belly when taking the image so I could get the perspective.'

Mr Long, who works as a sales manager for Seaward Safety in Lowestoft, took the photo on his Nikon D810 camera and added an effect after uploading it.

He also describes how he regularly posts his images on the Facebook site 'Lowestoft in the 21st Century' – a group that has been set up for amateur photographers to share their pictures of the town.

'It was it was exactly what I wanted, the foreground was nice and it gave a real perspective of a typical winter's day,' he added.

As our winner, Mr Long receives a 12in x 10in framed version of his photo, worth more than £60, from Picture Studios, of London Road North, Lowestoft.

By progressing to our next six-monthly winners' final, he is also in with a shout of winning the top prize – a 12in x 18in photo block, worth £130.

Entries can be of any subject, but they must be digital images submitted by amateur photographers.
