MAY I congratulate Benjamin Britten High School's drama department on a superb performance of Sophocles' Antigone.

The actors were drawn from all three of Lowestoft's high schools and we were transported back to the Theatre of Dionysus in Athens, where all the passions of Greek tragedy were played-out.

The scene was painted to look like the Acropolis and the paradoi (entrances) also marked by flints.

There were outstanding performances by actors playing Creon, the soothsayer, Haemon, Antigone and the sentry. Members of the chorus, plus enchanted ancient pipe and drum music, all added to the overall tension of the drama.

The production was produced and directed with a professional touch by Sharmaine Pullman.
