I AM writing to express my thanks and that of the Bethel Christian Fellowship for The Journal's coverage of the recent happenings here at the Bethel.

We did not expect front page coverage nor the interest from other media either.

I AM writing to express my thanks and that of the Bethel Christian Fellowship for The Journal's coverage of the recent happenings here at the Bethel.

We did not expect front page coverage nor the interest from other media either.

In particular I would like to express my thanks to John Holmes for his fascinating article on the history of the Bethel and I am certain that if John's interest in history is that keen and he felt like writing a definitive history then we would be pleased to assist him.

I would like to correct one detail of the article. Everybody seems to be of the opinion that the Bethel is in demise or closing.

Can I assure the people of Lowestoft that the Bethel is not closing. The building may be up for sale but the congregation are far, very, very far, from being down and out. We have just celebrated 158 years of worship and service to Lowestoft and plans are under way for the 159th anniversary next year.

It would be nice if some kind soul would purchase the building and still allow the fellowship to worship there or perhaps someone would lead a Save the Bethel campaign and secure the building for the future of Lowestoft.
