FORMER Suffolk schoolboy Nick Griffin will appear on tonight's edition of Question Time after a panel of BBC executives stood by the controversial decision to invite the leader of the British National Party onto the show.

The BBC's governing body met in an emergency session to debate 11th-hour attempts to block Mr Griffin, who was elected to the European Parliament in June.

The three-strong panel of BBC Trustees was set up yesterday to examine the protests to see whether it should intervene amid fears that tonight's planned appearance could boost support for the party, as happened with France's far right party in the 1980s.

But the BBC Trust said it was “a question of editorial judgement” whether it was appropriate for the BNP to be represented on the show as they allowed Mr Griffin to appear on the show this evening.
