Volunteers turned out in force to plant almost 500 trees in a popular wildlife haven.
The Bonds Meadow Community Association volunteers planted the trees, which they had successfully applied for from the Woodland Trust, on Tuesday (today).
The 16 volunteers meet every Tuesday morning to care for the seven acres of woodland, meadows and ponds that make up this area of land off Dixon Drive and Hall Road in Oulton.
The trees were planted in four separate woods, each species planted to offer habitat, colour and fruit to the many woodland creatures and birds that inhabit this conservation area.
Project manager Peter Aldous said: 'We had a very good turnout, and worked for almost four hours to plant a working wood, a colour wood, a wildlife wood, and a fruit wood. Trees planted included silver birch, rowan, wild cherry, oak, maple, willow, hawthorn, hazel, dogwood, blackthorn, crab apple and dog rose. Future generations will hopefully benefit from our efforts today'.
