IT APPEARS that Eric Pickles, Tory shadow government secretary, is concerned that the proposed boundary changes would reduce the number of Conservative Party councillors rather than deliver better quality services.
This, perhaps, explains why Mr. Bee, Tory leader of the Waveney District Council (WDC), has been so energetic in his opposition to the changes and why he has offered little in the way of an intellectual argument in support of his case.
We know that WDC has, for a number of years, systematically underperformed under his leadership therefore he can hardly argue the case that the Tories can deliver effective and efficient services on behalf of the local electorate.
Also, as a result of years of Tory led mismanagement at WDC, continued poor performance reports from the Audit Commission and now significant potential budget deficits, Mr. Bee has to shed jobs at WDC.
Yet, despite all these failings I wonder whether Mr. Bee will be keeping his job?
