THE Boundary Committee's publication of its draft proposal for Norfolk and Suffolk has generated much interest from your readers.

We'd like to thank those who have responded already and we look forward to receiving more responses by the time the consultation closes on September 26.

We recognise that our draft proposals set out changes that will affect everyone, which is why we're keen to hear not only what people think but why they think it.

Posters and leaflets about our review should now be available at libraries and council buildings, and our website at www.electoralcommission.org.uk/boundary-reviews has all the information needed to respond.

The committee's job is to draw up plans that strengthen local government. We've been asked to put forward proposals for unitary authorities that can deliver high-quality, efficient services. We also want to see stronger, better-resourced parish and town councils capable of taking decisions that affect their local communities.

This could mean, for example, that town or parish councils decide where speed bumps are built, what facilities are available in local parks, or how often streets are cleaned.

We look forward to hearing the views of the people of Norfolk and Suffolk over the coming weeks.
