Motorists were faced with diversions after an emergency overnight closure of Lowestoft's Bascule bridge this week.
The unscheduled closure caused problems on Tuesday evening after one of the barriers controlling the traffic broke.
A Highways England spokesperson said: 'We fixed the issue overnight and the bridge re-opened at 3.45am the following morning (Wednesday).
'We will be carrying out further investigation work as to why this happened.'
The Highways Agency had carried out maintenance work to the Bascule bridge in Lowestoft throughout April, which resulted in a series of overnight closures 'to minimise disruption'.
