I SAY driver, I think we may have taken a wrong turning!
This photograph from Thursday, January 12, 1939 shows an Eastern Counties bus in a rather poor state of affairs. It was sent in by Michael West, of North Road, Southwold, whose father Jack was driving the bus from Southwold to Halesworth that day.
'The front offside wheel came off as he rounded the corner approaching Wolsey Bridge, Reydon,' said Mr West. 'He lost control and after narrowly missing a telegraph pole dropped eight foot on to marshland before striking a tree.'
The six passengers on board that day all escaped injury. Mr West went on to drive many more buses, working with Eastern Counties until he retired in 1962.
