WATCH: Car runs red light at notorious junction

The short clip shows a car pulling out onto the junction at Tom Crisp Way on the A12 in Lowestoft.

The Renault Megane, which was sitting at a red light, pulls out into the junction without the lights changing to amber.

As the driver pulls out, a motorcyclist instinctively begins to follow before realising the lights have not yet turned green.

The driver who recorded the footage, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "I approached the lights at Tom Crisp Way - they had been red for about a minute or so.

"All of a sudden the car in front just started moving forward and went through the red.

"At first I thought it was a mistake and maybe he had seen one change to green at another set of lights, but there were no other lights visible from that perspective, and the only ones seen were still red.

"I don't know if it was deliberate or if the driver wasn't paying attention, either way it was dangerous."

The driver added: "I think it's just lucky how no one was crossing and there weren't any other cars coming the other way."

In the last six years, nine vehicles have been involved in collisions at the junction on the A12.

In January 2013, a motorcyclist was killed on the road after a collision with a Ford Focus, and three years later, in January 2016, a Dacia Sandero, Toyota Rav4 and Audi A3 were involved in a collision which saw one man taken to hospital.

Another motorcyclist was taken to hospital after a collision with a camper van on this road in September 2017, and in January this year, two people were hospitalised after a collision involving a Mazda and a Ford Focus at the same junction.

There have been call in the past by residents and councillors for the speed limit of Tom Crisp Way to be reduced to 30mph.

Suffolk Police did not want to comment on the footage as it had not been reported to them.
