A record number of people enjoyed a summer fete at a specialist dementia care home in Lowestoft.

Residents at Harleston House organised and ran the home's annual summer fete recently with the support of their relatives and staff.

The event turned out to be a big success as a record amount of visitors and a record amount of funds were raised – with £1,100 to go towards the residents' Christmas party.

Gareth Harding, activities co-ordinator at Harleston House, said: 'It was a bigger and better event than last year. The residents, staff and residents have gone above and beyond once again – it was great to see so many people enjoying themselves.'

The fete featured professional stallholders with a range of items varying from sweets to handmade cushions. Jo Harmer, from the Bespoke Sweets and Treats, said: 'We had an amazing afternoon at Harleston House and sold out of our unicorn product.'

Numerous children enjoyed the bouncy castle, ice-creams, lucky dip and squirt the duck game.

Susan Graham, home manager, said: 'Our residents spent a long time preparing and taking part on the day. It was their day and their fete so to see so many people come to support us was amazing.'
