A charitable fund set up in memory of a popular Lowestoft teenager has helped to spread some festive cheer.
The Taylor High Memorial Fund provided a series of festive treats for residents of Lilac Lodge and Lavender Cottage care homes at the weekend.
Residents at the care homes in Oulton Broad received an early Christmas present as Father Christmas arrived to hand out a series of gifts.
And continuing to help others, the memorial fund – which was set up by 19-year-old Taylor’s parents, Elaine and Gary, after his death in a car crash in west Norfolk in March 2011 – is approaching the £100,000 milestone in the New Year.
Mrs High said: “Taylor’s dad Gary had previously been shopping and wrapping 35 presents to hand out at the residents’ Christmas party.”
It was then left for Taylor’s nanny, Barbara High, and Mrs High to join Father Christmas in giving each of the residents a gift from Taylor’s Fund.
Mrs High added: “It was lovely to see their faces brighten up when our charity gave them each an individual gift of chocolates, thermal socks, orchids, chocolates, and various other Christmas goodies.
“We explained that our local charity gives out gifts and donations throughout the year in memory of Taylor within our community and it was their turn to receive one to pass on Taylor’s smile.
“Their smiles brought smiles to our faces too.”
The memorial fund has raised more than £96,000 and made more than 100 donations since its inception, with community projects, worthy causes, organisations and deserving local people across Waveney having all been supported.
Mrs High said: “We couldn’t do our giving without help and donations from local people so we thank everyone who supports our charity.
“We hope to pass our £100,000 of donations in the early part of 2018, so it’s definitely a year to look forward to rather than back on our loss.”
