Cavalcade is a sad loss

AS the Mayor of Lowestoft I was shocked, appalled and yes, saddened, on reading in The Journal (July 3) of the cancellation of the Eastern Lights Motorcycle Cavalcade.

This fundraising event has been running for the past eight years ending with the mass gathering on Lowestoft's Royal Green.

Biking enthusiast are drawn from all over the country and as far away as Europe to see this spectacular event.

It will be a sad day if this charitable event were forced to be shelved for ever because of police red tape.

The loss of much need funding for the James Paget University Hospital's A&E unit and also the knock on effect this event has both to Lowestoft town; it's business community, and for tourism.

I would call on the authorities to reconsider their decision and to allow this prestigious event to continue.

Concerns raised have never been an issue before so why now?
