HOPES are high that a bikers' charity event will return to the streets of Lowestoft next year after red tape had forced the cancellation of this year's ride from Norwich.

HOPES are high that a bikers' charity event will return to the streets of Lowestoft next year after red tape had forced the cancellation of this year's ride from Norwich.

Two months after 1,500 bikers descended on the town for the final Eastern Lights get together at Royal Green, they look set to return again in 2010.

Despite this year's cavalcade being called off, bikers have still raised £9,080 for the James Paget University Hospital, in Gorleston, by donating their fees.

And this week organisers presented a cheque to the hospital's accident and emergency unit.

And Eastern Lights committee spokesman Paul Howard said: “We cannot change what has happened this year but we can look forward to next year and I can announce that we have now fixed a date for an event on Sunday, July 25, 2010. We do not as yet know what form the event will take - but it will take place in Suffolk and a meeting with Suffolk Police is planned for the near future.”
