Our destination has much to be proud of, including its towns, beaches and communities.

Tourism is worth over £214m to the local economy and supports more than 11pc of jobs in the area.

Much of the industry's success can be credited to the wonderful facilities we have, from country hotels, stately homes, wildlife parks, traditional accommodation, theatres and theme parks.

The Journal and the Beccles and Bungay Journal are again teaming up with the Waveney Tourism forum to recognise and praise the efforts of our tourism industry in the 2008 Sunrise Coast Tourism Awards.

This is the second year that the two north Suffolk weekly newspapers have supported the awards.

Last year's winners included the Fisher Theatre, Newlands Country House, the Waveney House hotel and Broadland Holiday Village.

The owners of Newlands Country House, at Reydon, David and Penny Ball, said: “We proudly display the award in our reception and on all our marketing material. Our guests often comment on the award and how this was won.”

This year categories include: best bed and breakfast; best hotel; best holiday park and best attraction.

Readers are being asked to nominate businesses for the awards and businesses are encourgaed to nominate themselves, explaining why they should be considered for the ward.

The judging panel, made up of members of the Waveney Tourism Forum and the two newspapers, will review all nominations before announcing the winners at the Sunrise Coast Tourism conference and awards on November 25.

Darren Newman, Waveney Districts Council's service manager for tourism and events, said: “Each year we see attractions and accommodation providers develop their products to benefit customers and improve the visitor experience.

The tourism awards recognise the achievements by the industry in promoting the district as a popular tourist destination.”

To nominate a business, fill in the form and send it to: Sunrise Coast Tourism Awards, The Journal, 147 London Road North, Lowestoft NR32 1NB.
