CELEBRITY glamour is set to sweep over a picturesque seaside village as part of a charity auction.

Designer frocks and garments previously adorned by high profile figures in the world of music, television and film will go under the hammer in Walberswick as part of a Comic Relief fashion show.

Generous donations received for the event next month already include a signed Twiggy t-shirt, a Jo Brand designer jacket, Davina McCall dresses, a Clive Anderson tie and a Geri Halliwell shrug.

Nearby Southwold has proven to be a hotbed for famous faces during the summer months. Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Prince Charles were amongst those who visited the Suffolk resort last year.

Fans and collectors are expected to fill out The Barn in Walberswick on March 8 to compete for the ownership of the items.

A team of volunteers hope to raise thousands for projects in the UK and Africa by staging the show.

Angie Power, 46, who is the main organiser of the event, said: 'I have really done a lot of begging and asking for these items and hopefully it should be good fun and will lift people's spirits in this recession period.

'There is something for everyone over this weekend from children to adults to enjoy and hopefully people will don a red nose and spend lots of money.'

The celebrity wardrobe will be modelled on the catwalk as part of a fashion show illustrating the latest designs and trends from Southwold-based boutique Collen and Clare.

All the garments will then be auctioned off to the highest bidder to raise vital funds for Comic Relief 2009.

Two years ago the event managed to raise more than 5,000 and Miss Power is hoping the celebrity pull will see them reach similar heights, despite the economic gloom.

As well as the fashion show, which kicks off at 3pm, celebrity memorabilia will be sold off earlier in the day from 12.30pm in the same location.

Amongst the items already secured are a Bornue Ultimatum DVD signed by acclaimed director Paul Greengrass and a signed copy of a Gerri Halliwell children's book.

A 60s groove night will get the fundraising weekend in Walberswick underway on the Friday in the village hall from 7.30pm and seats are still available for a double bill of comedy films on the Saturday night, which follows a day of entertainment for children.

Anyone interested in attending the fashion show is advised tickets at 10 can be purchased direct from Collen and Clare Boutique, The Cut in Halesworth and The Tuck Shop in Walberswick.
