This year's Christmas Day swim charity applications have now opened – with organisers looking for worthwhile local charities to benefit from the donated sponsorships raised.

The festive dip has raised tens of thousands of pounds since Sentinel Leisure Trust took on the organisation of the event, and last year the swim raised £13,000 for local charities. If you would like to be considered visit www.sltrust.co.uk/xmasdayswim to apply. The deadline for all applications is Thursday, October 25.

Matt Stebbings, Physical Activity and Health Manager at Sentinel Leisure Trust, said: 'Every year we open the application process to local charities to apply to be a beneficiary from the swim. These charities/organisations must be local to the Lowestoft and Waveney area and serve the local community. It is a chance to reward the hard and valuable work local charities do, sometimes unnoticed. The organising committee will sit down in November to discuss and decide who will be a beneficiary for 2018.'
