Charity event in Lowestoft

MUSICIANS from across the region will be uniting together this weekend for another special charity fundraising event in aid of the Parkinson's Disease Society.

In September, ex-professional drummer and Parkinson's sufferer, Gary Woods picked up his drum sticks again to perform with 20 fellow musicians in a fundraising event to remember at the Corton Hut.

He had suggested that members from his old bands joined together for a charity event and after a successful day raising �1,605, they are planning to do it all over again on Sunday.

This time The Parkinson's Project band will include Andy Robinson, Graham Brown and Buster James Band singer Roger James in their line-up. Support will be provided by acoustic folk rockers Big Red Boat, country rockers El Gatos Men and Steely Dan tribute band Steemy Dan.

As well as offering top quality music and a raffle full of star prizes, the event will feature the launch of the band's album. The 12 track CD features rock and roll, rock ballad and soul tracks. It will be priced at �8 and will be distributed nationally by the charity.

'Every penny made on the night and from the CD will go to the Parkinson's Disease Society,' said co-organiser and saxophonist Dave Norton. 'We've not had to pay out for anything and you just couldn't put on an event this big if you were paying. Everyone has been so generous.

'Gary is really motivated for the event. He's amazing - as soon as he picks up the drum sticks you can see he is still one of the best.'
