Pupils from Benjamin Britten High School (BBHS) have been hard at work practising during lunch breaks and after school for the performance at Great Yarmouth’s Hippodrome tonight (Friday, November 13).

The 50 BBHS students, aged between 11 and 14, will be part of a choir which also includes pupils from North Denes Junior School, Beccles Primary Academy and Great Yarmouth High School.

They will perform the Miley Cyrus hit The Climb after getting tuition from BBHS head of music Vincent Khoo and Corinne Breen, the school’s head of expressive arts.

Ms Breen said: “The students are so excited and we very proud of their efforts.

“Not only are the students excited about singing, they are also excited about raising money for charity.”

Deputy headteacher David Park said: “We are really proud of the children.

“It is great to see so many young people wanting to sing. School is much more than exam results.

“I would also like to thank the staff for their hard work.”

Executive headmaster Jim McAtear said the project was a “wonderful way” to announce the opening of the school’s new academy of music and mathematics, where it will specialise in the teaching of those two subjects.

BBHS student George Butler, 14, added: “I am really excited as we are helping others who don’t have what we have.”
