Brand new learning sessions focusing on the seaside and marine life are to be launched by a Lowestoft charity.

Access Community Trust, a charitable organisation in Lowestoft, has teamed up with Cefas Laboratory to provide unique sessions for young people in Lowestoft called the Curiosity Project.

The sessions will cover a variety of different topics and aim to give children and teenagers an understanding of the potential career paths within the marine industry.

The new project is funded by grants from BBC Children in Need and is supported by local government scientists from Cefas.

Beginning on Tuesday, May 29, and running through to Tuesday, July 31, the sessions will be split by age group with one session taking 10 to 14-year-olds and another taking 15 to 18-year-olds.

The sessions will take place at a variety of locations including the Orbis Energy Centre, the Lowestoft History Museum, and Lowestoft North Beach.

Speaking on behalf of Cefas, fisheries scientist Linford Mann, said: 'Supported by BBC Children in Need and working in partnership with Access Community Trust, Wellcome and the East Suffolk Council, Cefas is excited to provide fun, practical and engaging learning experiences for young people within the Lowestoft community.

'The morning sessions, designed and delivered by Cefas staff, cover a wide range of environmental and industry topics that will provide insight into potential career paths within the marine science industry.'

Dave Eagle, business support officer at Access Community Trust said: 'This is such a fantastic opportunity for young people in our town to learn more about our coastal system and the goings-on beneath the waves!

'We're incredibly lucky living here on the coast and really excited to be working together with Linford and his team at Cefas on this project and deliver such a unique learning experience for you people in town.'

Cefas, or the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science, is described on their website as 'a world leader in marine science and technology, providing innovative solutions for the aquatic environment, biodiversity and food security.'
