VINTAGE and classic cars will gather for a fundraising rally later this month in memory of a teenager whose life was cut short in a crash on the A12 nearly four years ago.

Eighteen-year-old Carla Took was killed along with friends Claire and Jenny Stoddart, aged 15 and 18, in a collision south of Lowestoft in the early hours of July 1 2006.

Now her parents are hoping classic car enthusiasts will join an event to raise money for the Palliative Care East appeal in their daughter's memory.

Carla's mother Angela Took, of Oulton, near Lowestoft, said: 'My husband David is a member of the Lowestoft Classic Vehicle Club, and the group approached us with the idea of arranging a classic car run in Carla's memory.

'It's a really nice thing for them to have done, and we are very, very touched that they came up with the idea. We've had nothing but kindness and support from all of our friends at the car club since the tragedy, and this has shown us how much they care.'

The road run, on Sunday, June 27, will leave the Park Hill Hotel in Oulton at 11am and cars will then travel to the Fairhaven Woodland and Water Gardens at South Walsham, near Acle.

Enthusiasts from other car clubs are welcome to join the rally, which costs 5 to enter. All proceeds will go towards the building of the palliative care centre at the James Paget University Hospital, Gorleston.

Donations will also be collected at the end of the event.

Mrs Took, who works at the James Paget, said: 'We would like people to come and take part, anyone who owns a classic car is more than welcome.

'Visitors at Fairhaven will also be able to enjoy seeing all the cars arrive, so it should be a lovely day.

'As well as letting the rally finish there, Fairhaven have very generously given us a donation for the appeal so we are very grateful for that.'

She added: 'Me and my husband are very appreciative of all the care and thought that has gone into arranging this event and although life without Carla is still so painful, it is good to think that by raising money for such a worthwhile charity, something positive can come from the tragedy.'

Anyone who wants to take part in the rally can contact the Lowestoft Classic Vehicle Club's event organiser Geoff Bowles on 01502 584566.

Cars need to be at Park Hill by 10.45am for the 11am start.
