Freezing cold conditions and thick fog have hit Waveney this morning, with drivers urged to take caution on the roads.

Last night saw the region experience the coldest temperatures of the year so far, dipping as low as -8C in some rural areas.

Lowestoft police encouraged motorists to 'drive safe', while Sgt Chris Harris from Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Policing Team reminded drivers to turn on their lights due to the blanket of fog.

A weather warning issued yesterday had told the region to brace itself for the ice and freezing fog, and a further warning remains in place for snow and ice from 1pm today until 9pm tomorrow.

The Met Office said rain and snow were expected to move into the UK from the southwest from Thursday and through Friday with icy patches forming, but that snow amounts would 'vary markedly' across England and Wales.
