Gwen Parsons, who has led the college since 2002, was admitted to the James Paget University Hospital, in Gorleston, after the accident on Thursday evening, but was allowed home at the weekend. It is not yet known what arrangements will be made at the college during her absence. Students are on holiday and will be returning in early September.
Mrs Parsons tripped and fell at home after returning from the Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival dinner.
She said: “It is a leg I have broken a number of times before. I already had a metal plate in it but I managed to break it through that. I have had an operation to put another plate in it at another angle, with any number of screws.
“I have a brittle bone condition, so I break easily. This is the first fracture since 1975, so I have had a good innings. I am not allowed to put any weight on it for three months, and I expect to be off for six months.
“I am still mentally very alert and still able to get people at the college to know what they should be doing.”
